Jimi Needles: Gimme The Call (ft Great Scott and Skilf) (Rocstar Recordings)

Remember that old school advert for fruit pastilles (other chewy sweets are available) that challenged you to put one in your mouth without chewing? And you can’t. It’s impossible, like eating a doughnut without licking your lips, or listening to Gimme The Call without grinning. Seriously they should prescribe this record on the NHS as a cure for depression. Made for summer afternoons barbecuing and breakdancing in the park, good enough to console you when you have to stay inside ‘cos it’s pissing it down.

Mac Miller feat Anderson Paak: Dang (Warner Bros)

Everything Anderson Paak touches in 2016 catches fire, and this is no exception. The first release from Mac Miller’s forthcoming release is, we’re ready to bet, will be the standout track on the album. More summery vibes. Play it towards the end of a hot, hot day with something straight up over ice chinking in a heavy galss.

Jamila Woods: VRY BLK (ft Noname)

We couldn’t be any more excited about the first, proper, solo release from Chicago rapper Noname (formerly known as Noname Gypsy). ABOUT. TIME. But in the meantime, she puts in a guest verse on this brilliant track that manages to be sweetly soulful and full of restrained righteous fury. Great production from OddCouple and Kweku Collins on this one.

Lando Chill: Early in The Morning (Mello Music Group)

Mello Music Group are seemingly unable of releasing a bad record. This free download from new signing Lando Chill is a teaser for August’s album release, and it’s another summer time jam. Laid back with an understated piano hook running through it, it’s a fine way to start the day.

Denmarc Creary: Work (bandcamp)

This has been out since December last year but we’re stupid so we didn’t know. Leeds local, via Jamaica, he’s putting in work drawing positive attention. If you get the chance to catch him live, do. In the meantime, this is free on bandcamp. You know it makes sense.
