Adult Swim’s Singles Program is now in its 7th year and if you haven’t listened to them before you need to start. Every year since 2010 Adult Swim have got together a mixed array of artists and put out one track a week, with the amount of weeks varying each year. 2017-2018 promises to be the biggest one so far as 52 weeks have been scheduled for it, so if you’re not on board with it already here’s why you should be.
The programme boats arguably the most eclectic collection of music you’ll ever hear, one week it can be Freddie Gibbs and the next it’s Mastodon. Due to this, there’s something for everyone and every single song can deliver. I’ve had them all in an annually growing playlist and it’s something you can sit down and get on with stuff to. It’s such a unique encapsulation of the current climate when they’re released. You’re able to capture the essence of each genre’s sound when they’re released and even if not you can see the next big sound starting off right on the program.
Normally quite hip-hop based, the releases they have are second to none. From collaborative efforts from Danny Brown and Clams Casino to DOOMSTARKS (MF DOOM and Ghsotface Killah) and also more mainstream artists like Future and Vince Staples – all the songs provide great versatility from the artists involved. Perhaps the best provider on the list is Flying Lotus/Captain Murphy, providing 4 tracks over the years (1 as FlyLo and 3 as Capt. Murphy) his production is incredible and some of the features include sought after Earl Sweatshirt and Grammy winning Thundercat.
If that isn’t enough to sway you to listen, look at the artists involved in this year’s program below. Migos, Bankroll Fresh, Run the Jewels and even that collaboration with DOOM and Jay Electronica. It’s definitely worth checking out every week, and oh yeah – it’s all completely free.
